Planning an engagement session can be overwhelming. From choosing the location to selecting the perfect photographer, there’s a lot to think about before the big day! One important decision you’ll need to make and one question I get asked most is what to wear for engagement photos – but don’t worry, I’m here to help. Your clothing choices can make a significant impact on the overall look and feel of your photos. Want to make sure you’re dressed to impress on your engagement shoot? Here’s a guide on what to wear to your engagement session!
Coordinate Outfits, Don’t Match – I can’t stress this one enough! When it comes to dressing for your engagement session, you don’t want to be too matchy-matchy. However, it’s still essential to coordinate your outfits, so they complement each other. Try selecting colors that work well together, or consider incorporating similar patterns or textures into your fashion choices. The goal is to look like you belong together, without being too “matchy.”
Choose Flattering Silhouettes and Colors – Your clothing choices should make you feel confident and comfortable. Opt for outfits that you’d typically wear, and colors that complement your skin tone. If you’re not used to wear a mini dress or high heels, you might feel uncomfortable during your session and we don’t want that! Also, bold and bright or neon colors don’t always photograph well so unless this is totally your vibe, sticking with neutrals and pops of color are going to photograph nicely!
Dress for the Location – Consider the location of your engagement shoot when choosing your outfits. For example, if you’re taking photos on a beach, you may want to wear breezy, beachy attire like flowy dresses or linen shirts. On the other hand, if you’re taking photos in a city setting, you may want to dress more formally in suits and cocktail dresses.
Accessorize and Layer – Accessories and layers can add depth and interest to your outfits. Try adding a statement necklace or earrings, a stylish hat, or a denim jacket to your ensemble. However, be careful not to overdo it – less is often more when it comes to accessorizing.
Don’t Forget about Your Shoes – Your shoes are an essential part of your outfit, so don’t neglect them. Choose shoes that match your outfit and are comfortable to walk in. If you’re shooting in an outdoor location, consider wearing flats or sneakers rather than stilettos.
Your engagement photos are a cherished memento of your love story, so choosing the perfect outfits for your engagement session is essential. From coordinating your outfits to dressing for the location and accessorizing, there are several things to consider when dressing for your engagement shoot. Ultimately, your outfits should make you feel confident and comfortable, so be sure to choose outfits that reflect your personal style and taste. With these tips, you’ll be sure to look your best on your big day! I’m always here to help, too! If you’re just not sure, send me a message and I’ll help you out!
